Now I know who you are. I remember the chip shop opening before Isaac called it Niagara. I was too young to have the money to buy fish and chips but my brother would come home from courting in Wallace Park and buy fish and chips, run down Tonagh Drive past the Green, turn on Divis Way and then in the side door at 1 Derrin Place. He would eat them in the next bedroom and the smell would float into the next bedroom where I would melt with envy. Trouble now is I have eaten too many fish and chips! Protruding belly problems. Not only from the fish and chips but from the real cream in the cookies across the street in the bake shop. Frank McCourt has nothing on my Angela's Ashes stories. I'd love to hear from folks who have a saying. I can't remember them all at once, but every now and then I naturally come out with an Irish one, like, "you scunder me!", or "go put your jerkin on." or, "I got my gutties wet." Solving problems is a lot more fun than creating them - B Barr (1999 A.D)

I found your site very interesting. I initially went in to see if there was any mention of my late Uncle Robert's pub in Drumbeg and came across a photograph on your site of my adoptive mother as a little girl outside her father's Blacksmith shop in Drumbeg. My mother was to her maiden name Sadie Dugan, a sister to Ellen Stewart, the wife of Robert Stewart. My adoptive mother married a David Crawford of Leverogue, Lisburn, a farmer. Eileen Black was my cousin. I live and work in Ontario at the nuclear power plant and would be interested in hearing from anyone from the Leverogue, Drumbo, Drumbeg areas. Seeing that picture of my adoptive mother was very special to me. Thank You. I would love to hear from anyone with a similar background or memory of me or mine. I went to Carr Primary School, then Knockbreda Secondary Intermediate, then Cregagh College of Further Education. I lived on a farm on the outskirts of Drumbo. I went to Drumbo Presbyterian Church. I have been in Canada since 1981.

My name is Elizabeth Jane Taylor. I was born in Lisburn in 1961 and emigrated to Canada with my family a few years later. I’m on a mission – I inherited a silver trowel originally given to my great-great grandmother in 1893, when the corner stone was laid for the Osborne Methodist Church on Balmoral Avenue in Belfast. There were six other identical trowels handed out the same day. I know the church was eventually decommissioned and taken down. I’ve always wondered what happened to the other six trowels. I think it would be a neat project to try and find them and document how they’ve been passed down through the families. I’ve created a web page with details about the trowel, the original ceremony, etc. www.TheFlyingScotsman.ca/methodist.htm Do you have a website, guestbook, newsletter or blog where I could put a listing of my page, to see if I could find some of the other six trowels or in actual fact, the current owners of the six other trowels could find me!? I’ve had great fun finding the Stafford’s & Pratt’s in all the directories on the LennonWylie site. I’ve also found the 1911 census record for the Pratt family (my mother’s mother was 3 at the time of the census!) I’ve also contacted the Irish Methodist organisation, PRONI and the West Belfast Historic Society. I also remember my grandmother having an article on the 50th anniversary of the church, but we can’t find the article. The photos at the bottom of the web page were taken at the 50th anniversary. Any help or leads you could provide would be appreciated.

Well! Well! Well! Isn't it indeed a small world! For years at home (Lisburn) I listened to my son Rodney talking about Darryl Collins, in fact I think that they both attended Brownlee together and then possibly Wallace, and now here is Darryl's dad contacting me in Canada! However Jim, as soon as I got your e:mail I opened the site www.lisburn.com and was amazed at what I saw. I had previously opened the Lisburn Star site only to find that their picture section was still under construction, apart from the rotating camera in Market Square. This site of yours really covers the town from A to Z and I have already downloaded a couple of shots from it. Excellent! I was over in Ireland during the month of September 2000, and although I was staying with my daughter in Ardglass, I made many excursions to Lisburn during that time. As you probably know, I taught in Lisburn Tech. for many years before becoming head of the Wood/Metal department in Lisnagarvey School, not too far from your business! In 1973 I thought I would break fresh ground and emigrated to Canada to teach in Rothesay High School where I taught until I retired in 1983. I now live with my wife in a cottage on the shores of the bay of Fundy, about six miles from Saint John. My son Rodney lives in Saint John with his wife Lynn and their daughter Michelle. I think you also remember my sister Hazel who was married to Paddy Machugh and lived on the Ballinderry Road. I am attaching a couple of pictures taken in September. The first one I took so that I could show it to Rodney and the other one was taken from Pond Park of what was part of my grandfather's farm at Ivy Hill. You have a very similar picture in your collection, actually number 20 taken from the same spot. You can see the Nissen hut that we erected in the corner of the field after my grandfather died and before the farm was eventually sold to Seamus Drayne from Pond Park Well Jim, I am eternally grateful to you for contacting me and although I have no requests for new pictures at present I will probably contact you later on. Sincerely yours, Ray Willis.

Was glad to get your E-Mail. I did originally leave for Canada in 1974 but I returned to Lisburn in 1978 and I worked up at the barracks on the Magheraleave Rd. until 1982 when I returned to Canada. I live in Saint John, New Brunswick which I'm sure you know is on the east coast. It is known as the most Irish city in Canada but I'm not sure if that is true as they can't seem to be able to tell the difference between an Irish accent and an English one. I only knew Darryl when I was going to Brownlee and we attended each others birthday parties. I don't know if Darryl remembers me or not I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't. My father was Ray Willis who was the woodwork and metalwork teacher at Lisnagarvey and before that at Lisburn Tech. By the way where did you spend your 10 years in Canada?
