Railway Street Boys' Brigade Annual Inspection and Display

Bobby Graham - Inspecting Officer is pictured presenting the 'Best Boy' award to Chris Weir at 1st Lisburn Company Boys' Brigade Display in Railway Street Presbyterian Church last Saturday night (24th March). Looking on is the Rev Brian Gibson - Chaplain (left) and Geoffrey Baird - Captain (right).

85 year-old past member Bobby Graham was the Inspecting Officer at 1st Lisburn Company Boys' Brigade Annual Inspection and Display held in Railway Street Presbyterian Church last Saturday night (24th March). Following inspection in the minor hall, the Cabin Boys, Anchor Boys, Junior Section and Company Section, led by the Company band, paraded into a packed church hall for 'Fall In' and 'Presentation of Awards'. The Chaplain, the Rev Brian Gibson, welcomed the parents, guests, boys and leaders and gave a special welcome to Bobby Graham, who was accompanied by his daughter Eleanor. Bobby and his older brother Jim were both members of 1st Lisburn Boys' Brigade. Bobby joined the Life Boys in 1926 and became a member of the BB band playing both the bugle and drums. He loved gymnastics and being the smallest boy he would always be on top of the pyramid. In a short speech after presenting the awards, Bobby spoke of his pleasure at being asked to perform the task of Inspecting Officer and during the evening he recalled many happy memories of his early days in the Railway Street BB Company.

The theme for the evening was 'The Real Way to Cook' in keeping with the name of a very successful recipe book of the same name, which was launched last November to raise funds for the refurbishment of Railway Street Presbyterian Church.  The fun packed programme included: 'Master Chef Goes Little' and 'Ready Steady Cook' by the Cabin Boys; 'Healthy Eating Parade' and 'Supermarket Sweep' by the Anchor Boys; 'Can't Cook Won't Cook' and 'Working Up an Appetite' by the Junior Section; 'Time to Boil an Egg', 'Chop Sticks' and 'Simpson's Cookery Show' by the Company Section
