The Annual Lagan District Girls� Brigade Service attended by about 370 officers and girls was held in First Lisburn Presbyterian Church last Sunday afternoon (13th April). The Rev Andrew Thompson (Chairman of Lagan District) assisted by the Rev John Brackenridge (Minister of First Lisburn) and District Commissioner Lynda Dunlop led the service. The special guests were the Mayor, Councillor James Tinsley and his wife the Mayoress, Mrs Margaret Tinsley.

Angie McKee (Child Evangelism Fellowship) gave a challenging address to the girls. Temple woman Angie, who was a member of Boardmills GB for 36 years and captain for 3, said that when we are born we are dead in God�s eyes because we have a problem - sin. She went on to say that Jesus took the punishment for sin and spoke of the need to turn from sin and trust in the Lord Jesus as your saviour. Donning a cap, scarf and draping the flag of her favourite football team Liverpool, the keen supporter said that following your favourite team would not get you to heaven - but following Jesus will. Speaking of the importance of friends she said that Jesus wants to be your best friend and concluded by emphasising the need to submit your life to Jesus and make Him number one in your life.

Sophie Williams, Kirsty Harbinson, Victoria Withington, Janice Scott and Louise McCullagh from Magheragall GB also took part in the service and the lively praise was led by a group of musicians from First Lisburn.

A collection (�625) was taken for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

The 18 Lagan District Girls� Brigade Companies are: Drumbo, Dunmurry, Elmwood, First Lisburn, Hillsborough, Legacurry, Kilmakee, Magheragall, Moira and Sloan Street Presbyterian; Seymour Hill, Seymour Street, Maghaberry and Trinity Methodist; St Paul�s, Derryvolgie and Lambeg Parish; and Lisburn Congregational.
