Presbyterian Moderator, The Rt. Rev Dr Stafford Carson was the special guest speaker at Trinity Boardmills Presbyterian Church last Sunday evening. The service of praise and thanksgiving was part of a ‘Launch Weekend’ to encourage and motivate leaders of all organisations and in the words of the anthem sung by the choir, help them to ‘Turn your eyes upon Jesus’ as they embark on a new season of activities.
The minister, the Rev Tom Harte, gave a warm welcome to the congregation and leaders of organisations and gave a special welcome to the Moderator and his wife Patricia.
In a challenging sermon, the Moderator used the analogy of ‘The Red Sea’ and the ‘Dead Sea’ to compare against a ‘living’ Christian life of involvement and a ‘dead and stagnant’ live of not being involved in church activities. He encouraged those not already involved in some area of Christian service in the church to get involved in active service otherwise their Christian life will become dead and stagnant. He went on to speak of the need for a new life of devotion and commitment to serve the Lord as they show a real passion for Christ and a compassion for others as they give out in love and Christian fellowship as they get out the good news of the message of the gospel. He concluded by encouraging them to hold onto this vision of a ‘living’ Christian life as they serve the Lord here in Boardmills.
Mrs Joan McKee presided at the organ and together with the church choir led the congregational hymns that appropriately included, ‘The Lord’s my shepherd’ and ‘O for a closer walk with God’.
