The Rev Dr Peter Mercer was welcomed as the new minister of Magheragall Methodist Church at a reception prior to morning worship and communion last Sunday (2nd August). Previously minister of Greencastle Church on the Newtownabbey Mission Circuit, Dr Mercer will have pastoral oversight of both Magheragall and Broomhedge in succession to the Rev Ed McDade. Dr Mercer preached his first sermon at Broomhedge on the first Sunday in July. Retired Minister, the Rev Dr Edmund Mawhinney, will assist Dr Mercer at Magheragall and Broomhedge.
Mr McDade, who previously had pastoral oversight of Broomhedge, Magheragall and Trinity Methodist Churches, will now concentrate his ministerial duties solely on Trinity Methodist Church where he will be assisted by Mrs Angela Sofley, Lay Pastoral Assistant and Mr David Twyble, who looks after Trinity’s many links with local community groups and organisations.
