Jenny Munro talks to Lynne Booth

Lynne BoothLYNNE Booth, 23, is currently employed as a temporary worker with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue service where she is an office administrator with the Transport department. After completing GNVQ's and a secretarial diploma at college, Lynnne signed up with a recruitment agency and within a few days she was assigned a temporary position.

Lynne, who is from Lisburn, was recently named one of eight regional runners-up in the Grafton Temp Ireland Awards 2005, the competition to find the best temporary worker in Ireland.

I get up at 8am, shower and have breakfast. As I live in Lisburn it doesn't take me long to get to work.

The first thing I do when I arrive at work is to turn my computer on and check my emails.

I contact the control room and get a list of vehicles involved in incidents the day before.

The next task is to check the post we receive before I put together spreadsheets and spend most of the morning entering data into the computer.

I am responsible for making sure all the vehicles have been taxed, so I have to keep the paper work up-to-date. I also may receive general queries regarding the appliances and the odd time drivers will request radio codes.

I produce reports for my boss and list any vehicle costs including labour and parts.

I have a tea break in the morning and a 45-minute lunch break, which begins at 1pm.

Data inputting and drawing up reports are my main duties, but it can be a varied job depending on what my bosses need me to do.

I have worked as temporary worker for three and a half years.

I don't have a great deal of day to day contact with the recruitment agency who placed me in my current job although the manager of the agency contacts me every so often to see how things are going.

The agency supplies me with time sheets, which I have to get my manager to fill in each week.

When most people hear I am a temporary worker they assume I move around jobs frequently, but that is not the case. I have been in my present post for over three years.

I finish work at 5pm and go home. I make dinner and then like to watch TV and have a chat with my boyfriend. I go to a Unislim class once a week too. 1 enjoy spending time with my friends and family in my spare time. It's nice to get the chance to relax before heading to bed after a busy day.
