No Death So Sad

Support and friendship for bereaved parents and their families by those similarly bereaved.

Local Help line: 028 8778 8016

Only someone who has been through the pain, shock and trauma of the death of their child, really knows what it is like.

The Compassionate Friends (TCF) is a nation-wide organisation of bereaved parents offering understanding, support and encouragement to other bereaved parents and their families.

Originally founded in Coventry in 1969 and now has links around the world. Our link (TCF NI) was established in 1974.

Our help is offered to all parents whose son or daughter has died at any age of any cause.

Compassionate Friends has no religious or political affiliations. We are a voluntary organisation.

No parent expects to attend their child's funeral. Sadly every year thousands of newly bereaved parents face a future in which their family life has been changed forever.

In the early days and weeks after the death, parents and families are surrounded by relatives and friends. As time passes this support can fade away just when the reality of the loss increases. Many parents find at this time they need support from someone who has gone through and survived "every parents nightmare."

Members of TCF are not counsellors but befrienders who are willing to listen and share with the bereaved. Parents are free to cry or laugh without fear of being judged or misunderstood.

We offer support in a variety of ways:

  • One to one visiting
  • Telephone or letter contact
  • A Local Helpline
  • Group meetings
  • A range of leaflets
  • Annual Retreat

Northern Ireland Support Group meetings are held in the following venues:

Belfast 3rd Tuesday of each month in St Peter’s Church Hall, Antrim Road, Belfast from 8pm – 10pm
Lisburn 2nd Wednesday of each month in the Downtown Centre, Market Sq, Lisburn from 8pm -10pm
