A Lisburn man through and through, Brendan's family home was in Ridgeway Street. He went to school in Lisburn and then went on to be a fitter in Fafnir's Factory on the Ballinderry Road, Gambles Ltd. and later retired from Bemac Ltd.

Thelma moved to Lisburn when she was 13. Her family home was in Canal Street before she moved to Tonagh Estate. Thelma went on to work in the Island Spinning Mill for many happy years.

The couple met at the local cinema in Lisburn when they were in their late teens and got married in their twenties in St Patrick's Church, Chapel Hill in 1949. They moved into Alanbrooke Avenue, Greenwood where they started their family. They went on to have ten children of whom seven remained in Lisburn and raised their own families.

The happy couple retired to Newcastle where they still live.
