Chinese group wins dragon boat race

THE LISBURN Ladies Chinese Group won the recent dragon boat race which is held annually in Lagan Watersports Centre.

Nine teams took part, including a number of crews from local businesses and associations across Belfast and Lisburn.

English and Cantonese commentating was provided throughout each exciting race. Chinese cuisine was also provided during the lunch break as a chance for the teams to re-energise themselves for the semi-finals.

Dragon boating dates back thousands of years, involving crews with a drummer racing in 40-foot long boats. The festival occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar on which the Chinese calendar is based.
