Organised by Lower Iveagh District LOL No 1, the opening of the orange arch and mini twelfth parade was held at Dromore on Wednesday 24th June. Bro Maurice Coburn (Deputy District Master) chaired the proceedings and the opening ceremony was performed by Mrs Mary Mattison, mother of the Worshipful District Master, Bro Dr Jonathan Mattison, who was unable to attend. Scripture readings and prayers were led by Bro Robert Murphy (District Lay Chaplain) and the dedication of the arch and the address were given by Bro Rev Gerry Sproule (District Chaplain). Dromara Primary School pupil, seven-year-old Victoria Kernaghan, daughter of Bro Mervyn Kernaghan (Second District Lecturer), made a presentation to Mrs Mattison.

Bro Tom Wilkinson (Rising Sons of William LOL 422, Ballygowan) made an appeal for the maintenance and upkeep of the arch and Skeogh Flute Band played a selection of music during the taking up a collection. A vote of thanks by Bro Paul Malcomson (Drumiller LOL 582) was seconded by Bro Dennis McCracken (Listullycurran LOL No 616). The hymns ‘Stand up, stand up for Jesus’ and ‘Abide with me’ were led by Corbet Accordion Band, conducted by Geoffrey Dickson. A praise and worship band ‘Inflame’ comprising young people from several local churches, provided lively Christian music before and after the opening ceremony.
