THIRTY years after the first DeLorean car rolled off the production line at Derriaghy. a cavalcade of the famous gull winged cars will return to Lisburn this weekend.

Around 80 DeLoreans from 21 different countries will descend on the Lagan Valley Island on Saturday at 7pm as part of a five yearly convention for enthusiasts.

The Lisburn stop is just one event during the weekend during which the owners will visit Carrickfergus Castle, Bangor and the North Coast and attend a welcome reception in the Europa Hotel, where the first ever four seater DeLorean will be on display.

There will also be an opportunity to get a closer look at the World Autotest which will take place at the Odyssey this Friday, May 27, at 9am. Members of the public will be able to view the cars, smell the tyres, hear the roar of the engine and feel the buzz.

An exhibition of Delorean Memorabilia and Product Fair by the DeLorean Owners Association will be on display on Friday afternoon in the Europa, with free admission.

Robert Lamrock, a Director of the DeLorean Owners Association, said: "This year's festival is of particular importance to DeLorean fans as it marks the 30th Anniversary of when the first DeLorean rolled off the production line and into the history books." Lorraine Finlay Marketing Manager with Northern Ireland Auto Trader, headline sponsors of the event commented: "This Festival marks a significant occasion in Northern Ireland's history.

Part-sponsoring the World Autotest is the Department for Social Development. Minister Nelson McCausland said: "Events such as this give the public and international visitors an opportunity to experience some of the highlights that Northern Ireland has to offer.
