HISTORY

Maghaberry Elim Church began in 1926 when Mr. Edward Geough conducted a series of meetings in the Orange Hall. After about a year these meetings moved to a tin hut called the Iron Hall. The church was forced to vacate the original site, near to its present site, and the congregation had nowhere to worship. The local Methodist minister allowed them to make use of the Methodist hall where they worshipped for about a year. Mrs. Boyd donated a piece of ground at the crossroads and a wooden building was erected. But, as no deeds were obtained, the building was later demolished to make way for a shopping development. A building of wood and galvanised iron was erected and meetings were held here until 1975. In 1989 the site on which the present church is built was purchased for £30,000. Work began on the new church in September 1991 and it was opened on Saturday 3rd October 1992.

Pastor Johnny Brown was inducted at Maghaberry Elim in July 2003 and Reamond Hyde was welcomed as Deacon on 18th January 2006. Pastor Brown was greatly assisted by his wife Emma and during his ministry numbers attending Sunday services increased to about 60 - 80 and many were brought to saving grace. At their Healings services they seen tremendous results of answered prayer, when a woman was cured of cancer and a girl cured of a bowel disorder.

After nearly four years as their loyal Pastor, Mr. Brown preached his farewell sermon at an emotional service in Maghaberry Elim Pentecostal Church on Sunday evening 4th February 2007 and was inducted as the new pastor of Portadown Elim Pentecostal Church on Thursday 8th February of that year.

Pastor Paul Evans, previously in Castlederg Elim, was inducted as the new Pastor of Maghaberry Elim Tabernacle on Friday 21st September 2007. Pastor Paul said farewell in August 2010.

Pastor Brian Madden was inducted in September 2010, he came from the Elim Christian Centre Belfast. You can read more about him on his web site www.pastorbrianmadden.com
