Clare Ashbridge was ordained for the Curacy of Donaghcloney at
Shankill Parish Church, Lurgan, on Sunday 24th June. She was one
of eight new deacons ordained into the Diocese in what was the
largest number of deacons ordained by the Right Revd Harold
Miller in his ten years as Bishop of Down & Dromore.
Daughter of Tom and Patricia Ashbridge, Clare is from
Newtownards, Co Down. After attending Regent House Grammar
School (1993-1999) she took a gap year to work with the Church
Missionary Society Ireland in Cairo, Egypt, before attending the
Queen?s University Belfast (2000-2003) where she obtained a
Bachelor of Theology Degree. From 2003 to 2005 she worked as a
lay pastoral assistant in Knockbreda Parish Church, Newtownbreda,
Belfast, coming under the wise influence of Archdeacon Philip
Patterson. While being supported and encouraged by family and
friends, Clare trained for the ministry in the Church of Ireland
College Dublin, (2005-2007) where she obtained a Masters degree
in Theology (QUB), specialising in area of pastoral care to the
elderly.
Clare, who will assist the Rector, the Rev Tommy Allen, preached
her first sermon as the new curate of Donaghcloney at morning
worship in St. Patrick, Donaghacloney and Holy Trinity,
Waringstown on Sunday 1st July.
