Revd Charles McCartney

The Revd Charles McCartney has been appointed as the new rector
of Holy Trinity, Aghalee. He succeeds the Revd Simon Doogan who
moved to Ballyholme Parish earlier this year.
Charles left School at 15 and served his apprenticeship as a
motor mechanic, eventually becoming a vehicle/driving examiner
for the DOE. He served in the RUC part time reserve during the
1970s and 1980s and following his call into full time ministry
he was ordained in 1985 and became Curate in St Mark�s,
Portadown (1985-1988). For a short time he was Rector of
Ballygawley before going into the Army where he served as
Chaplain to the Forces (1989-2004). He returned to parish
ministry in 2004 and since then, has been rector of St Donard�s,
Belfast.
His home parish is St Elizabeth, Dundonald and his mother still
lives across the road from the Ulster Hospital. His wife Cecilia
was brought up in the Parish of Drumcree, Portadown and works
with her brother in a furniture store in Portadown and also
served as a Greenfinch in the UDR. They have 5 children: 27 year
old twins Robert and Carol (both single!) - Robert is in the RAF
and Carol is a Constable in Liverpool Police; Naomi 26 still
lives at home, she is engaged to Mark and works in the Halifax
at the old Gas Works in Belfast; Charlene 23 (single) works with
the NAAFI and is presently based in Lisburn; Christopher is
nearly 18 and has just completed his first year as an apprentice
technician with NIR based in York Road Belfast.
On a good day, Charles and Cecilia like to get away together on
their motorcycles.
Speaking of his move to Aghalee, Mr McCartney said, �We are
looking forward to joining you and sharing our lives and
Christian faith with you all in Aghalee and Maghaberry on
Thursday 18th September. I am sure it will take some time to get
to know you all - I hope you don�t mind me taking this
opportunity to introduce our family�.
The Institution service for the new rector will be held in Holy
Trinity, Aghalee on Thursday 18th September 2008.
