Looking on is the minister, the Rev Brian Gibson. The hymn How lovely is Your dwelling-place aptly summed up the feeling of the many people who packed the tastefully refurbished Railway Street Presbyterian Church which was re-dedicated on Sunday 1st June by The Very Rev Dr Howard Cromie, Senior Minister and former Moderator of the General Assembly. A brass plaque, unveiled by Dr Cromie during the service, is inscribed: It is our prayer that this building will enable us to fulfil our vision of following Christ and serving the community.

The Rev David Porter, Moderator of Dromore Presbytery, led the service and the preacher was the Rev Norman Brown, a former member of Railway Street. The special guests included the Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson, Councillor James Tinsley (Lisburn Mayor) and Victor Hamilton (Grandson of third minister).

The church choir and musicians, under the leadership of Miss Janet Ferguson, Director of Music, led the praise and the guest organist was Mr Peter Wilson who was organist of Railway Street from 1974-2000. The hymns included How lovely is Your dwelling-place, All people that on earth do dwell, and Go forth and tell. Mr Brian Patterson (Convener of the Refurbishment Team) and Mr Brian Knox (Architects Knox and Markwell) read the Scripture lessons.

After six years of planning, work on the major refurbishment of the church, which began in 2006, involved complete re-roofing, strengthening of the ceiling, re-vamping of the dais area including relocation of the organ console, rewiring and the installation of emergency lighting and alarms, new pews and gas-fired heating.

A weekend of celebration marking the re-dedication of the church sanctuary included a Concert last Saturday evening compered by Mrs Eileen Mol and featuring Dromore and District Male Voice Choir and Symington Memorial Silver Band; an Evening of Praise and Thanksgiving last Sunday evening was led by Ballydown Presbyterian Church Orchestra and the preacher was the Rev David Bruce.
