Local churches unite for Women’s World Day of Prayer

Women’s World Day of Prayer

Women’s World Day of Prayer is a global, ecumenical movement of informed prayer and prayerful action, organised and led by Christian women who call the faithful together on the first Friday in March each year to observe a common day of prayer and who, in many countries, have a continuing relationship in prayer and service. The theme chosen for Women’s World Day of Prayer 2009, ‘In Christ There are Many Members Yet One Body’, is very appropriate for Papua New Guinea as the country has many languages, cultures, traditions and beliefs. Although the people are different in many ways they continue to experience the spirit of unity in diversity. Services of prayers, readings and hymns prepared by Christian women of Papua New Guinea will be held on Friday 6th March. Lisburn area churches will hold their main service in Railway Street Presbyterian Church at 8.00pm. Mrs Jean Gibson will lead the service and the speaker will be Mrs Hazel Loney. In addition to the service in Railway Street, there will be a service in Thompson House on Thursday morning (5th March) at 11.00am when the speaker will be Mrs Jenny Smyth and also a service in Blaris Fold on Friday afternoon Friday (6th March) at 2.30pm when the speaker will be Miss Margaret Young, a local preacher of the Methodist Church and a member of Magheragall Methodist.
