A LISBURN teenager is heading to Mount Kilimanjaro on a Team Challenge expedition.

Jonathan Ingram, 17, is one of 26 pupils from the Royal Belfast Academical Institute involved in the expedition, which takes place in July.

As part of his challenge Jonathan has to raise 3000 and so far his fundraising has included a sponsored abseil off the BT Tower - a major feat considering he has a fear of heights.

The adventurous student has written letters to local businesses looking for support and is determined to reach his target.

He said: "I am really looking forward to going to Tanzania where I will be working on projects which will benefit the local community."

Jonathan who hopes to achieve his Queen's Scout award this year is currently in training for the exciting challenge and is teaching himself the native language Swahili. He has also been informed that the expedition will contribute to his Duke of Edinburgh Gold award.

Anyone who would like to offer Jonathan sponsorship should contact Jenny Monroe at the Ulster Star, 12A Bow Street, Lisburn on 9267 9111.
