Deputy Mayor,
Councilior James Tinsley discusses
the exhibition with Deardre.
US2407-Art Exhibition 2
LOCAL artist Deardre McKibbin held her first
solo exhibition 'Nurtured by Nature' in the Art Act Gallery,
Lisburn last week.
The exhibition, which ran from Monday June 4
to Saturday June 9, proved to be popular among local art lovers
and Lisburn's local councillors.
Deputy Mayor, Councillor James Tinsley paid a
visit last Friday and described it as: "An excellent exhibition,
I was very impressed. It is a credit to Lisburn City to be host
to work of this calibre." Deardre's exhibition was a mixture of
bronze and porcelain sculpture, monoprints, boxed ceramics and
oil paintngs. She commented, My art work is a vehicle for
raising peoples' consciousness on the simple and often unseen
beauty in all nature, the power of its life force and also on
environmental issues such as destruction of greenbelt areas,
genetic modification, intensive farming etc.
"The art work covered many mediums. I find
each medium brings out another area of expression and another
issue that needs voiced."
Rodrick Duncan stated, "This first year as a
fledgling artist in the public arena has proved an extremely
encouraging start to Deardre's artistic career. Evidence of her
abilities is seen not only in the awards she has received within
the last year but also in this, her first solo exhibition."
