Jacqui Lewis gets ready for the New York
Marathon
LOCAL singer/songwriter Jacqui Lewis is
putting her best foot forward for charity by taking on the
challenge of a lifetime - running in the New York City Marathon.
Jacqui will be jetting off to the Big Apple
and pulling on her running shoes on Sunday November 4 to run the
26 mile course, all to raise money for Action Cancer.
"When I turned thirty last year I made a list of
all the things I wanted to do before I was 40 and one of those
things was to run a marathon," explained Jacqui.
"I saw a small article in the Ulster Star
appealing for people to run the marathon in aid of Action Cancer
and I was the last person to sign up to it."
Jacqui has been busy training for the event,
and took part in the Lisburn Half Marathon in June, dressed
appropriately as the Statue of Liberty.
As well as getting in shape, Jacqui needs to
raise almost 3000 for the charity. With a third of the money
already secured, Jacqui is hoping a concert at the Island Arts
Centre next Thursday night (August 30) will net her a large
portion of her funds.
The concert, aptly named 'Rhythm and blues
for Running Shoes', will feature the Lee Hedley Blues Band and
promises to be a good night of musical entertainment, all for a
good cause.
Jacqui has had great support from her family
and friends, particularly her husband Brian and her colleagues
in the Podiatry Department of Belfast City Hospital.
"My friends and colleagues are raising money
for me and without the support of my husband I wouldn't have
even got this far," added Jacqui.
If you would like to support Jacqui, tickets
for 'Rhythm and Blues for Running Shoes' are on sale now from
the Island Arts Centre Box Office on 028 9250 9254.
Alternatively, if you would like to sponsor
Jacqui, she can be contacted on 07773191142.
