Stormont.
Members of the Greater Lisburn Ageing Well Group enjoyed a great
day out in glorious sunshine on a visit to Stormont last
Thursday (7th May). Organised by Elsie Vance, 115 over 50s met
at the Lagan Valley Island for the short drive to Belfast for
what proved to be a most memorable outing with lots of fun and
chat. They were met on the steps of the famous building by Basil
McCrea MLA who conducted the tour assisted by John McCallister
MLA (South Down). On entering the Great Hall they were given a
brief but informative history of the building by guide Melanie
Coffey. During a visit to the Assembly Chamber, Mr McCrea
allowed the group to participate in a humorous vote and in true
fashion of the chamber the Ayes went to the right and the Noes
to the left.
Greater Lisburn Ageing Well Group has enjoyed 5 successful years
since it was formed in 2002. Leader Elsie Vance ensures that the
members age well as they enjoy weekly activities that include
dancing, outings, walks and yoga to name but a few.
On
the Stormont trip was 88 year-old Gwen McWilliams. Born in
1919, Gwen who is certainly ageing well, was brought up in
Summerhill Avenue (just past Stormont). She was a border at
Friends School from 1930 to 1937 and moved to Lisburn in 1973.
