The new President of the
Friends' School Old Scholars' Association,
Joan Russell, presented a plaque to Ken
Boomer in recognition of his contribution as
President.
THE new President of Friends' School Old
Scholars' Association, Joan Russell, enjoyed the support of a
large audience at the President's dinner held recently.
Joan was joined by seventy Old Scholars,
family and friends at a dinner held in the school dining hall.
The new President was welcomed and introduced
by her predecessor, Ken Boomer. As her first offical duty, Joan
presented a plaque to Ken in recognition of his contribution as
President. Other presentations were made during the evening to
Holly Lyons, Head Girl, and to Michael Pollock, Head Boy, who
both received honorary membership of the Association.
The retirements of the Secretary, Derek
Shuter and the Treasurer, David Thompson, were also acknowledged
by the presentation of gifts.
The Swain Cup was presented to the school by
Ken Boomer and was accepted by the Principal, Elizabeth Dickson.
Joan comes to the office of President after a
career spent in education as a teacher in Dromore High School.
In her speech, she reflected on experiences
derived from family life in Lisburn, from her years as a pupil
at Friends' School and from her varied and interesting career as
a teacher.
A delicious buffet meal was served by the
school catering staff and was followed by a varied and
thoughtful musical programme presented by a group of musicians
led by Gertie Jamison.
