LISBURN City Library will host the launch of a new book by one
of Northern Ireland's most celebrated writers, Glenn Patterson.
On Tuesday September 9 at 7.30pm the book -
called 'Once upon a hill: love in troubled times' - will be
officially launched.
Glenn, better known as a novelist, has on
this occasion written a family memoir. The book will be of
particular interest to Lisburn readers since the author's family
has its roots very firmly in the town.
The book concerns itself in greatest detail
with the author's
grandparents who had a shop in the Smithfield
area of the town. It tells in particular the troubled story of
their relationship, one which bridged the religious divide. It
is a story full of twists and turns, each new discovery opening
up fresh mysteries. The love story of Jack and Kate Patterson is
a prism through which the author views the troubled history,
both in Lisburn and further afield, of the first decades of the
twentieth century.
All are welcome to the launch. Booking though
is essential. Anyone interested should ring Lisburn City Library
9266 9345.
