A
MOIRA girl has raised 3600 for the Alzheimer's Society by
running the New York marathon.
Carley Chapman, 21, completed the run in 4
hours, 44 minutes and 30 seconds. Talking about the race the
young solicitor said: " Once we were all in place the claxon
sounded and off we went to the tune of Frank Sinatra's New York,
New York'. The first ten minutes of the race were amazing,
running over the bridge which joins Staten Island to the rest of
New York looking at the Manhattan skyline, it was brilliant."
She continued: "The first 10 miles flew by. My
mum along with the other Alzheimer's supporters, were then
waiting for me at the 18 mile mark so I was able to spot them
and get a quick picture! Only 8.2 miles to go!
"I had only ever reached 18 miles in training
so this part was going to be scary. However I just kept running!
At 20 miles
"I could see Central Park, nearly there. The
crowds were still very much present and keeping us going.
"It was fantastic. Worth every second of
training."
Carley would like to thank y everyone who
sponsored her and helped her raise a staggering amount for
charity.
