HANSOL
Lee, a Year 14 pupil at Friends' School, recently participated
in a language course in Germany organised by the German Embassy.
She was one of only 22 successful applicants from across the
whole of the UK to be awarded a place in the UK-German
Connection Exchange to Kaarst near Dsseldorf, during which she
stayed with a German family for two weeks, and attended a German
school everyday.
"Days started at 6am, and we had lessons
everyday, taught by a German native and a German teacher from
Manchester.
"We also had the opportunity to visit
cities, including Bonn, Dsseldorf, Cologne and Aachen, and even
got to go to Holland and Belgium for the weekend" Hansol said.
"These two weeks were an invaluable
experience and, as we listened to and spoke German every day, my
German has really improved. I have gained a
lot more confidence linguistically, and really enjoyed this
chance to spend time in Germany." In addtiion, Hansol's German
teacher, Mrs Sue Barron, was invited to attend the annual
German Sommerfest hosted by the German ambassador at his
residence in Belgrave Square in London.
