A BOOK entitled 'Beloved Of My Heart -Little Hillsborough Town' by Hillsborough's history, arts and cultural society Hillsborough Old Guard has been launched at a social evening in Hillsborough Village Centre.

The book, the culmination of four years of hard work, provides an insight into the history of Hillsborough and, more importantly, village life.

Harry Shortt, Chairman of Hillsborough Old Guard, welcomed everyone present. He explained the origins of Hillsborough Old Guard and their reasons for producing the book, thanking all involved in the compilation of this excellent publication and all who contributed photographs and the many interesting articles.

Local history teacher Simon Walker, a member of the editorial team, gave a brief overview of the book.

Pearl Finn, Secretary of Hillsborough Old Guard, spoke affectionately about the late Norman Redford Johnston, a founder member of the Old Guard, to whom the book is dedicated.

Pearl then presented a signed copy of the book to his widow, Mrs Margaret Johnston. Adding his congratulations to all involved, Lisburn Mayor Councillor Allan Ewart presented Pearl Finn with a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her work.

Following a light supper villagers, well-wishers and guests danced the night away to music provided by Housty.

The book is on sale at £15 in Walkers Butchers, Wilson's Greengrocers, Reaney's Chemist, Trio, Patterson's Chemist and the Hillsborough Tourist Information Office. It can also be purchased online at www.hillsborougholdguard.co.uk.
