LOCAL people will soon be getting their skates on and heading to Castle Gardens for some winter fun with the official opening of Lisburn's first ever outdoor skating rink just a week away. With the Festive Season •now in full swing, there will be a chance to try out your moves on the ice as part of the final celebrations for Lisburn's 400th Anniversary. The ice rink, which is sponsored by Lisburn City Council, will be open from Friday December 11 until Sunday January 3 and the organisers believe it will be the perfect family treat over the holidays.
And since Christmas wouldn't be complete without a visit to Father Christmas himself Santa will be in residence in his Grotto in Castle Gardens from December 11 up to Christmas Eve.
The Mayor, Councillor Allan Ewart, said it was exciting that a skating rink had been brought to Castle Gardens for the very first time.
"This skating rink provides the ideal opportunity for families to try something novel, in the heart of the City, with the wonderful backdrop of the recently restored Castle Gardens" he said.
"We wanted to inject a real Christmas atmosphere into the City's Festive Calendar and we hope this attraction will not only bring visitors to the City, but also provide some traditional Christmas cheer for our residents.
"Children under 8 will be required to be accompanied by an adult on the rink and all children need to be accompanied by an adult when visiting Santa's Grotto."
