Laurelhill Community College bids a fond farewell
to dedicated Acting Principal

THERE were tears and fond farewells recently when the Acting Principal of Laurelhill Community College, Mr Derek McClelland officially retired.

Over the past few weeks, pupils and staff have paid tribute to Mr McClelland's steadfast leadership and dedication to the College.

A retirement dinner was held at The Pheasant in Hillsborough and staff spoke warmly of Mr McClelland's diligence and guidance.

Mr McClelland's 35 years in Laurelhill Community College began in 1974 when he joined the College as part of the Technology Department. In 1982 he became Deputy Headmaster. In recent years, Mr McClelland has supported the College tirelessly as Acting Principal.

A spokesperson for the College commented: "Mr McClelland will be greatly missed. He is a dedicated teacher, spirited leader and enthusiastic member of staff. He spearheaded many innovative curriculum changes and pioneering new courses. His legacy ensures that the College is at the forefront of education. He has generated admiration, inspired change and ensured success. We wish him a happy retirement and fond wishes for a relaxing summer."
