PUPILS and teachers from the early years at Dunmurry High School got together last week to commemorate the schools 40th anniversary. People were reunited with friends they had not been in contact with for over 30 years with some travelling some distances especially for the , event.

A media presentation put together by Leslie Irwin and photographic display set up by Isobel Spence and Annette Suttie had everyone talking about the 'good old days'. Everyone was reminiscing about their sporting achievements (or lack of them), the wonderful productions put on by the drama club, the school trips and of course all the misdemeanours that ended up with a visit to the Principal's office.

A raffle organised on the evening by Paul Bennington, Patricia Hamilton and Diane McCrea helped raise over £600 for the Meningitis Trust charity.

Although the event was organised by past pupils it was a great tribute to that 'era' of teaching that so many of the original teaching staff attended and that so many good memories were shared of those early years.

After cutting the cake along with one of the first pupils Deirdre Donaldson, Mr Jack Beattie, on behalf of the teachers, offered a vote of thanks to the organisers for a wonderful evening.

One of the organising team Ellen Hendron said: "The evening was a great success and if the volume of noise in the room was a good indicator of the happy memories people shared, then it is a true saying that, the school days are the best days of your life. We would like to thank all those who came along and made it such a memorable evening and we look forward to seeing you all for the 50th anniversary."
