SAINTFIELD woman Joan Cunningham has presented £2,700 to Phyllis and Ian Hasson of Rock Ministries (NI) Trust to support their work with under-privileged children in Uganda and Rwanda.

The money was raised at a Christmas Charity Pleasure Ride organised by Joan and held in Saintfield in December when the riders and participants came dressed as Santas. Even the horses joined in the festive spirit which gave the celebrity guest "Farmer Andy" from Cool FM the very difficult job of judging the best turned out.

Joan has now raised almost £12,000 for the charity since November 2007 when 16 Ugandan orphans visited the province as the Mwamba Choir and came especially to Saintfield when Joan organised a charity ride and treated them to an amazing day of fun and new experiences when they rode on a horse and met the hounds for the very first time.

It is hoped to bring some of the children who have lost their parents and now live in an orphanage which has been established by Rock Children's Family, a project funded by Rock Ministries (NI), back to Northern Ireland later this year.
