Office bearers from County Antrim Grand Black Chapter attended a Pre-Demonstration Dinner in Magheragall Parish Church Hall on Friday 21st August hosted by Lisburn Royal Black District Chapter No 1. The six districts represented were Antrim, Ballyclaire, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Larne and Lisburn.
The Master of Ceremonies was Sir Knt Francis Beckett (PDM). Sir Knt David Burleigh (Worshipful District Master) welcomed the Sir Knights and distinguished guests, which included the Most Worshipful Sir Knt Millar Farr (Sovereign Grand Master), the Rt Worshipful Sir Knt Stanley Bamford (County Grand Master), the Right Worshipful the Mayor, Councillor Allan Ewart and the Worshipful Sir Knt Norman Bell (Grand Master of the Grand Orange Purple of Ireland). David went on to speak on the honour of hosting the ‘Last Saturday’ demonstration on this the historic occasion of the 400th anniversary of the founding of Lisburn. The ladies committee of Magheragall Parish Church served a most enjoyable four-course dinner following grace by the Right Worshipful Sir Knt Rev Thomas Greer (County Grand Chaplain).
Sir Knt Rodney Clarke (Killultagh RBP No 517) chaired the evening’s entertainment adding his own brand of humour and stories to a programme of gospel music by Stephen Shaw and Fred Prentice and a performance of march tunes and various popular music by conductor Gary Shields and Lisburn Young Defenders Flute Band, including Gary’s own arrangement of the well known Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Sir Knt Matthew Tinsley (Deputy District Master, Lisburn RBDC No 1) gave a vote of thanks to all who organised and took part in what was a most enjoyable event, after which the evening concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, led by Lisburn Young Defenders Flute Band.
A retiring collection of £360 on the evening plus money donated during the District’s reception at the Mayor’s Parlour last Monday evening (17th August) results in a combined total of £660 being raised by the County Antrim Grand Black Chapter and Lisburn District Officers for the Mayor’s Charity TinyLife.
