Members of the Apprentice Boys clubs in the Lisburn area enjoyed a great day of celebration in the North West at the annual ‘Relief of Derry’ commemorations last Saturday (8th August). The clubs from Lisburn, Broomhedge and Dunmurry Branches braved early morning light showers during a short parade of their area before boarding buses for the trip to Londonderry. Once in the Maiden City the local clubs and bands joined in the famous siege’s 320th anniversary parade when as many as 10,000 Apprentice Boys were accompanied by an estimated 130 bands marking the culmination of the week-long Maiden City Festival. The Lisburn Branch was led by Lisburn Young Defenders, Broomhedge Branch was led by Pride of Prince William Flute Band and Dunmurry Branch was led by Miller Memorial Band.
