Cyclist back on her bike after horror accident

Caroline PattersonA MEMBER of Dromara Cycling Club recently got back on the saddle after spending months recovering from an accident which left her in a coma.

42 year old Caroline Patterson is lucky to be alive after a cycling accident resulted in a head injury, broken collar bone and ribs, in September 2010. Last week the brave mother of three donned her cycling gear for her first charity cycle since her accident and took part in the Downpatrick Third World Group Annual Charity Cycle Tour.

While some may have been hesitant to get back on a bike Caroline was determined to let nothing stop her.

She said: "I've had a lot of support over the past few months and am delighted to be back cycling. I enjoy it so much and was determined to get back out there again. I am feeling great and I got back out on my bike around February with my club. I got my bike changed to a smaller frame.

"I am lucky to be alive and Cycling Ulster gave me a lot of support along with Dromara Cycling Club, I also get a lot of support from the Community Brain Injury team at Thompson House too and I feel great and haven't been put off cycling."
