THIS year 39 excited pupils from years 9 and 10 and four members of staff from Fort Hill Integrated College visited Pamporovo just outside of Plovdiv in Bulgaria. The purpose built resort of Pamporovo ski centre offered the 30 new skiers excellent facilities and fantastic instructors. This allowed the novices to graduate from the nursery slopes and head for the main slopes in snow plough formation in double quick time. The intermediate group headed straight up the hill and spent a very enjoyable week touring the slopes the resort had to offer.
Not satisfied with just skiing, the group also had the opportunity to get out of the hotel in the evenings to take advantage to the superb local facilities. Bowling, swimming and bum boarding were undertaken as well as the instructor's prize night and the legendary Karaoke evenings. With a very favourable exchange rate, shopping in the local boutiques was also a very popular activity.
The week flew by with every skier making immense progress. Personal challenges were met and expectations surpassed. The smiles on every face at the end of the day were enhanced by the healthy glow of being outside in the sun all day.
Most importantly the group had a trip of a life time and managed to return with no injured or hungry skiers. The return flights and transfers all went as planned and congratulations must be given to Balkan Tours and trip leaders Mr. and Mrs. Richer for organising such a fabulous trip.
