Michelle Laverty with her daughter Poppy after completing a sky dive to raise money for Asthma UK
THANKS to a fundraising drive by a local family, Asthma UK NI will be hosting a family fun day at Lisburn Leisureplex in September.
The youngest member of the Laverty family, Poppy, suffers from asthma. To thanks Asthma UK NI for their support over the years her mum Michelle and the rest of her family decided to hold a series of fundraising events. As well as having a charity bag pack in Sainsbury's and an evening of entertainment, Poppy's family and friends also took a leap of faith and undertook a skydive for the charity.
Thanks to the thousands of pounds the family raised, Asthma UK NI have been able to organise a free family fun day on Saturday September 15 from 11am until 3pm.
The fun day is aimed at children and young people with asthma, as well as their families. Those taking part can participate in some fun asthma education and activities. The children can enjoy a free activity of choice and lunch will also be provided.
"We went to a similar event at Dundonald Ice Bowl and it was great," explained Michelle, who is delighted that their fundraising efforts have been so successful. "We got to meet one of the Belfast Giants, who suffers from asthma, we went bowling, there was a magician, the kids created art work and the adults got to discuss any worries with asthma nurses and with each other.
This really is a wonderful day and I would love, after all our hard work, for other people to gain from it and to see what is done with some of the money raised," she added.
To reserve a place at the fun day, contact Asthma UK Northern Ireland on 0800 151 30 35 or email deborah@asthma.org.uk.
