THE Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading will replace his Chain of Office on Saturday March 24 with a pair of walking shoes, as he takes part m the Northern Ireland Hospice Walk to raise funds for the local charity.

Mr Heading recently attended the official launch of the Northern Ireland Hospice Walks at Belfast Castle and explained his reasons for supporting the charity.

"Last year, as Deputy Mayor of Lisburn, I had the pleasure of officially starting the Hospice Walk at the Lagan Valley Civic Centre and saw the wonderful support from the people of Lisburn and communities across Northern Ireland. This year, when I was approached to officially open the walk as Mayor of Lisburn, I decided to put my best foot forward and take part as well as cutting that all important ribbon. I encourage everyone in the local community to join me in support of this local cause and one deserving of our support."

The Lagan Tow Path Walk is one of ten taking place across Northern Ireland between Saturday 24th and 31st March.

The local walk offers a choice of two routes — an eight mile walk starting from Lagan Valley Civic Centre and a three mile walk starting at Cutters Wharf, Belfast with both walks finishing at Belfast Activity Centre, Barnett's Park.

Creightons of Finaghy are official sponsors of the Lagan Tow Path Walk and will be participating on the day, along with hundreds of supporters of the charity. The Red Bull Promotions Team will also be on hand to give participants that little bit of extra energy and encouragement to cross the finish line.

Lynn Boyce, Event Organiser for Northern Ireland Hospice commented: "By supporting our local Hospice walk you will be helping to raise vital funds we need to care for adults and children diagnosed with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, as well as supporting their families. All care is free of charge and is provided 24 hours a day, every day of the year."
