KILLULTAGH: Members and friends of the WI enjoyed their weekend outing at the end of May, during one of the sunniest weekends of the year.
Organised by member Elizabeth Halliday and Hutton's Tours, the ladies set off in a coach, driven by Julie. They called at the Linen Green, Dungannon, had lunch and shopped in Enniskillen and then took a scenic drive along the west coast of Ireland to Clifden, co. Galway. They stayed at the Station House Hotel, where they had the use of the swimming pool and a delicious evening meal.
On Saturday, as Clifton was celebrating its 200th anniversary, the centre of the town was buzzing with market stalls of craft work, produce and there was a Flower Festival. In the afternoon, Julie drove along narrow roads to the Roundstone bogs and lakes. They stopped at the Alcock and Brown memorial and had a walk along the Coral Strand Beach where the sea was a beautiful aquamarine colour. At Malachy Kearns bodhran workshop, his wife gave a talk on bodhrans and supplied the ladies with afternoon tea.
On Sunday they headed for the narrow streets of the old part of Galway town and then headed east to Castletown House near Dublin where they enjoyed a most interesting guided tour. The Connolly family lived there from 1722 to 1954 and they were enthralled with the architecture, furniture and paintings.
At the Canal Court Hotel in Newry they had and evening meal and arrived back at the Filter Beds outside Lisburn at approximately 9.00pm.
Killultagh WI are grateful to Elizabeth Halliday, driver Julie and Hutton's Tours.
