FORT Hill College has been named the Walk for MS Eastern Area winners for 2009.

Action MS Chief Executive Ann Walker visited the school for an Awards Presentation following the pupils' tremendous efforts on the recent sponsored walk.

Over 430 pupils joined the Action MS Walks at Hillsborough Forest Park in November and Fort Hill College won the Eastern Area Shield at the recent Thank You Luncheon at the Ramada Hotel, Belfast after raising a fantastic total of £9,699.33 for Action MS.

Mrs Walker said: "Thanks to the generosity and support of schools like Fort Hill College the Walks for MS are at the core of Action MS support services. Action MS supports people living with multiple sclerosis, their families and carers in Northern Ireland. Fort Hill College really enjoyed their morning's walk and we are very grateful for their generous support."

Mrs Walker went on to say: "The Walks for MS first started 30 years ago and have directly helped Action MS develop its support from a listening ear service to include support for children and families living with multiple sclerosis, support for young people, respite care through our Medicare Break Holidays and Digital Inclusion."

Action MS will be celebrating '30 years of walking' on Saturday March 13 at Gosford Forest Park, Markethill at 1pm, led by Action MS Patron and TV/ Radio personality John Daly. The charity is inviting everyone, including those who 'Walked for MS' as schoolchildren, to join them once again and take steps to beat multiple sclerosis.

Action MS invites anyone who is living with MS, their families or carers to contact Jayne Smyth, Executive Director, who would be delighted to help. Call 907 907 07 or visit the Action MS website www.actionms.co.uk, for more information.
