Tinylife to gain from Lisburn half marathon

The Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Allan Ewart promotes TinyLife as the official charity of the 2010 Coca-Cola Lisburn Half Marathon, 10K Road Race and 3K Fun Run.Pictured with the Mayor is (r-I) Mr David Healy MBE, patron of TinyLife, who practises passing the finishing line and Mrs Samara Prentice, Events Officer for Tinylife.THE Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Allan Ewart, has announced TinyLife as the official charity of this year's Coca-Cola Lisburn Half Marathon, I0K Road Race and 3K Fun Run event, which will be held on Wednesday June I6.

Mr David Healy MBE, a patron for TinyLife, was present to help promote the charity, which is close to his heart, and to encourage individuals from across the province and further afield to enter this Lisburn event.

Speaking about the event Mr Ewart said: "Every year, the Mayoral charity is headlined as the official charity of this annual high-profile sporting event. I chose TinyLife as my charity, as it is a local Northern Ireland charity, which does outstanding work for the families of premature babies and funds research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage.

"I would like to encourage runners of all abilities to participate in the event and one pound from each entry will go to TinyLife. From the Ist February 20I0, participants can register online at the event specific website www.lisburnhalfmarathon.com, for any of the three races. May I also say thank you to Coca-Cola for once again being the headline sponsor of one of the largest events in the Council calendar," he concluded.

Competitive

David Healy MBE, International and professional footballer said: "Whether you consider yourself a competitive, recreational road or fun runner, be sure to sign up, as this event will have a running route suitable for you. It would be great to see as in previous years, 6,000 participants, run through the streets of Lisburn during these annual races. With one pound from each entry going to TinyLife, such a significant contribution would assist TinyLife in offering practical and emotional support, to ensure that parents of premature and ill babies get all the help they need."

Mr Ewart added: "If you are planning to participate in the event but may not have a particular charity in mind to raise funds for, then why not run for TinyLife. For the first time ever, TinyLife will be offering a range of gifts to say thank you, to those who raise funds for their cause. These items will be graded according to the total sum raised."
