DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
The Department is responsible for:
1. An Agricultural Advisory Service to help Farmers increase
their incomes by advising on business management and improvement
techniques in crop and animal husbandry.
2. Capital Grant Schemes under which grant aid is paid on a wide
range of farm improvement work including farm buildings, fencing,
farm roads, drainage, reclamation, etc.
3. Production Grant Schemes under which subsidies are paid on a
headage basis on calves, hill cows, hill sheep, and lowland breeding
cows to encourage the production of livestock.
4. Livestock Improvement Schemes. Here premiums are paid on
certain selected high quality males to promote the improvement of
quality in livestock.

Local Rates
Following the re-organization of Local Government in Northern
Ireland on the 1st October 1973, District Councils are now
responsible for fixing a District or Local rate for their area. In
addition a Central Government Agency is responsible for fixing a
Regional rate to cover the cost of providing services such as water,
sewerage and roads, education and social services. Ratepayers are
responsible for payment of the rates, i.e. the District rate plus
the Regional rate to the Rating Division of the Department of
Finance.

CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF LISBURN BOROUGH
COMMUNITY AND TENANTS' ASSOCIATIONS
This Committee was formed in 1975 and is non-party in politics and
nonsectarian in religion.
Aims and objectives
The Committee will endeavour to:
(a) Promote the welfare and benefits of the tenants and community
associations within the area of the Lisburn Borough Council.
(b) Establish close liaison with statutory and voluntary bodies
which have an interest in the Borough Area and to represent, as and
when required, the views and needs of the constituent associations
to these bodies.
(c) Keep constituent associations fully informed of all decisions
and policies made by these bodies.
(d) Maintain and improve community facilities and services within
the area for all the constituent associations.

SPORTS ADVISORY COUNCIL
The Lisburn Sports Advisory Council was active in the field of
sports development for a number of years in the former Lisburn
Borough and in 1975 adopted a new constitution which ensures that it
provides a service to the enlarged Borough.
Among the objectives of the Council is to advise the Borough
Council on the collective opinions of local sports interests
regarding the provision of new facilities and improving existing
facilities.
The Council hopes to encourage school leavers and young people to
participate actively in sports and physical recreation and to ensure
that all young people are aware of the range of sports activities
available in the Lisburn Borough.

LISBURN ARTS ADVISORY COUNCIL
During 1975 the Lisburn Borough Council initiated the formation of
Lisburn Arts Advisory Council.
The Advisory Council has two main aims:
1. To promote and encourage all leisure activities including the
visual arts and skills;
2. To work in conjunction with the Arts Council of Northern
Ireland to promote artistic activities and local talent in the area.
Membership of the Council is composed of representatives of the
Borough Council, the General Public and local organisations
promoting cultural activities such as photography, visual arts,
drama and music.
The Advisory Council has been active in promoting events and
activities in the Lisburn Borough and hopes to actively promote a
greater interest in the Arts and cultural activities.
