`Double' in sight for Larkfield ahead of Shield final

Larkfield player Deborah McCarthy, with members of the Nl team in action against Wales. Deborah will be heading to Cardiff with the Northern Ireland team to compete in the European Champonships on April 23-25.

LARKFIELD Netball Club are looking to complete the 'double' for the season this weekend when they meet Belfast Ladies in the Senior Shield final in Lisburn Racquets Club tomorrow (Saturday).

Having already safely secured the Premier Netball League title, Larkfield will be looking to achieve a superb double, following their comfortable 61-40 win over Belfast Ladies Seconds recently.

The Lisburn based team had their semi-final draw pencilled in against Belfast Ladies Seconds on Easter Tuesday. However, within the space of a few days the Larkfield Firsts defence, goal keeper Lisa Bowman fell ill and goal defence Deborah McCarthy picked up an injury at international training.

Under 19 international and Larkfield Seconds goal shooter Caroline Davis stepped up to play keeper and the Seconds goal defence Julie Whitten took Deborah's place as goal defence.

The regular top line-up in attack was Kyla Bowman as goal shooter and captain Caroline O'Hanlon goal attack, Kirsty McCammon wing attack with Laura Mason moving to centre and Eimear Wright in her usual wing defence slot.

Final

The Ladies managed to book their place in the final with a fantastic performance, however, coach Denise Prue hopes to have her top defenders ready for the match to face their Firsts at Lisburn Racquets as it is many seasons since they have contested the top two titles.

Three finals will take place in the Racquets Club tomorrow from 10am, with the Senior Shield final taking place at 2pm, following the Junior and Intermediate Shield matches.
