ACTION MS has said a big 'thank you' to all of the local companies who participated in 'It's a Knockout' at Lisburn Leisureplex on Friday, September 10.
The teams have raised thousands in aid of Action MS, vital funds that will be used to support local people living with multiple sclerosis, their families and carers.
With plenty of water and plenty of support the six teams - Corus Steel, Lagan Valley Vets, Next Home, Olympic Lifts Ltd and the Misfits - all made a big effort. An early lead went to the eventual winners Stannah Bananas - one of two teams entered by Lisburn company Olympic Lifts Ltd. With 135 points, captain Aaron Walker, led his team to victory with a 16 point lead on colleagues Nifty Lifty's, who took second place.
Following the event Aaron said: "We have all had a fantastic time, we all really enjoyed the event. We have been looking forward to this for the past few weeks and it has been tremendous fun, really exhilarating and well organised by Action MS."
The top fundraising prize went to Lagan Valley Vets of I W Moore MRCVS Veterinary Dromore and Moira. The team fought a tough battle finishing in sixth place. However they had already shown great strength of character and secured the top fundraisers trophy after raising a fantastic total of £1,081.21.
Ian Moore owner of Lagan Valley Vets said he was delighted his team had won the Top Fundraising Trophy: "Action MS is a charity that is very important to my family, my grandmother Mrs Mamie Waugh MBE was one of the founding members of Action MS 33 years ago. I congratulate my team on their efforts in aid of a worthy charity." Third place went to a team of volunteers from Corus Steel and Lagan Valley Vets - aptly named The Misfits who signed up at the last minute and gave everyone a run for their money.
Fourth place went to the Corus Steel team with 91 points just ahead of Next Home Sprucefield. Action MS Chief executive Ann Walker MBE said A big thank you to all those who took part. "Action MS is very grateful to all of the participants for their support," she said. "Action MS support services include reflexology, legal advice, befriending, focus groups - including the NewB's in the Lisburn area, and a listening ear service. All Action MS support services are offered free of charge to anybody with MS and also to their families and carers."
