PEOPLE came from near and far to the charity barbecue and music night held near Hillsborough last weekend to see the farewell performance of Elvis impersonator Stuarty Cardwell and the Laurelhill old boy did not disappoint with yet another top drawer performance which saw him receive a standing ovation from an appreciative audience.

The king of rock n' roll was supported by an array of local talent including the brilliant Elaine and Babs' Pat and the Gearys, Top of the World' Bad Penny and the Extremely Limited Orchestra.

Most importantly the chosen charity for the evening, the Ulster Cancer Foundation, benefited to the tune of over £2000.

A spokesman for the barbecue organising committee said: We are very grateful to all the singers and bands who provided the entertainment free of charge and we are indebted to Spar who went the extra mile with both food products and funds.

We would also like to thank all those who provided the items for the auction and of course to all those who donated so generously to the Ulster Cancer Foundation which helps local people in very practical ways."
