A CRUMLIN man who lost his wife to diabetes has raised an amazing £5115 for charity.

Finlay McBride raised the money by staging a Country and Western Concert at the Ballymac Hotel on September 14 headlined by the likes of Philomena Begley, Fiddler Adam, Country Harmony and Tony.

Finlay wanted to help Diabetes UK Northern Ireland after his wife, Anna, who had Type 1 diabetes for over 30 years, sadly passed away last year from diabetes-related complications.

Finlay said that it was a tremendous night: "I was delighted with how the night went and the support we got from people in the area and further afield. I would like to thank all the acts who put on a tremendous show and all those who came along to support the event on the night.

"We also had some amazing raffle prizes and I would like to thank everyone who contributed. It was a brilliant night and we're delighted to raise so much for a charity that does so much to help those affected by diabetes."

Acting Fundraising Manager for the charity Naomi Brown said: We rely heavily on individuals like Finlay to take up the challenge and help fund our activities. He put so much hard work and passion into organising the concert and I'm delighted that it was such a success and raised such a fantastic amount. I would like to thank Finlay, and all those who supported him, their efforts are greatly appreciated.

The money raised will fund research into diabetes, care events including the children's and youth camps, the Careline, information leaflets, awareness raising and campaigning for improved services. I would urge anyone else interested in supporting Diabetes UK to visit our website or call the local office for information as to how they can get involved."
