The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague and the Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading met with the Council's Economic Development Unit, Elected Members and representatives of the local business community to discuss economic programmes currently being facilitated across the City.
THE Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague, recently visited the City of Lisburn following an invitation by the Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading to visit the City.
Lord Mayor Montague is the first Lord Mayor of Dublin to officially visit Lisburn.
During his one day visit, the Lord Mayor met with the Lisburn Chamber of Commerce and the Council's Economic Development Unit.
He also visited the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, Footprints Women's Centre and the Youth Initiatives Organisation in Poleglass.
In the morning both Mayors met with the Council's Economic Development Unit and members of the business community to discuss economic programmes currently being facilitated across the city.
Through its various programmes and initiatives the Council is committed to working with local businesses to help improve the local Lisburn economy, and assist companies in their development.
Visiting, Youth Initiatives in Poleglass, the elected representatives also met with young people from both the Colin and Old Warren areas to see how European funding has helped foster improved community relations across the City.
Speaking about the visit, Lisburn Mayor, Councillor Heading said: It is an honour to welcome the Lord Mayor of Dublin to Lisburn. This is a memorable occasion for me as Mayor, and for the City, to have the Lord Mayor of Dublin visit."
Speaking about the cross-community work in Lisburn, Councillor Heading said: "Through the work carried out by Groups, such as Youth Initiatives, the young people of Colin, Twinbrook, Hillhall and Old Warren areas of Lisburn have had the opportunity to come together and take part in a series of single identity and cross-community workshops designed to increase their understanding of different cultures and increase tolerance and mutual respect and I am delighted to have been able to showcase the vital work of both Youth Initiatives and Footprints during the Lord Mayor's visit."
Speaking about his visit Lord Mayor of Dublin Andrew Montague said: "I enjoyed my visit to the different facilities and initiatives and meeting the people of Lisburn.
"I would like to thank the Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Heading, for his invitation to visit Lisburn and would like to return the invitation and invite him to visit us in Dublin."
